Rosemary Cottage | Dittisham

Location

Location in the village

Rosemary Cottage is located in Manor Street, slightly above the road and fronted by thick hedges for privacy. There is a car port (best access for larger cars is to drive past the house, turn in the Manor Street turning point, and to drive in to the car port as you come up the hill). A BMW X5 does fit just about.

If you enter Dittisham from the main Dartmouth Road, you will descend a steep hill into the village. The old school (now the village hall) is on your right and in front of you is the pub, the Red Lion. Turn right immediately after the village hall and continue along the Level. Pass the Level car park on your left (pay and display) and then go straight ahead. It says no parking beyond this point. After about 50 yards the road splits, and bear left into Manor Street. This is a hill that descends towards the river. Rosemary Cottage is on the right-hand side as you go down the hill, opposite a cottage called Sunny Bank. It’s worth the passenger getting out here before the driver continues down the hill, turns in the turning point and comes back up the hill to turn to the left into the car port belonging to Rosemary Cottage.

If you enter Dittisham from the Cornworthy road, then you need to bear right until you see the pub, the Red Lion. Drive in front of the pub and continue onto the road ahead, called the Level.

Directions to Dittisham

From the A38 take the Buckfastleigh/Totnes exit (A384). Turn left towards Totnes. Continue on this road until a roundabout at Dartington. Turn left onto the A385 and continue until you enter Totnes. After passing the King Edward VI school, there is a police station on your right, and then a junction with traffic lights. Take the right-hand lane as you approach the traffic lights in order to turn right in the direction of Dartmouth (A381). Continue up the hill and out of Totnes. At the edge of Totnes a sat nav may advise that you turn right towards Sharpham. This becomes a single-track road with high hedges and you may not want to attempt this until you are more familiar with driving on Devon’s single track roads. You may find it more convenient to continue on the A381 in the direction of Kingsbridge. Stay on this road, passing through the village of Harbertonford, until you reach Halwell. At Halwell you can turn left after the church which cuts off the corner. Continue up this lane until you reach a junction and turn left onto the A3122. This is in the direction of Dartmouth. Continue on this road. You pass Woodlands theme park, Dartmouth golf course and then a garden centre on your right. Shortly after this there is a junction with a pub, the Sportsman’s Arms on the left-hand side. This is called Hemborough Post. Slow down and indicate left. Turn off the Dartmouth road at this corner and bear right/straight ahead. This is the Dittisham road. It becomes single track in places and just before you drop down into Dittisham. Drive carefully. Drive into passing places to check what is coming.
